| B. ELECTIVES (3 Blocks Required) |
| |
You must take a minimum of three (3) electives during your senior year. You also are allowed three (3) 'Off' blocks. If you so choose, you can take an additional elective instead of having a block 'Off'.
Only Two Blocks of the Same Elective Can Count Toward Your 'Required' three credits!! Thus, if you want to do three blocks worth of elective on a single course (i.e. 3 ophtho months) you must use an 'Off' block to do the third block and do another elective in something else.
There are three categories of electives:
|
| 1. |
LSU SYSTEM--These are structured electives in our Electives Catalog. (Click Here for a List its at the bottom of the page) |
| 2. |
Ochsner--If course is not listed in our electives catalog, see Ms. Bobbie. |
| 3. |
Free-Planned Electives--A free-planned elective is one which you design to meet your own particular area of interest OR an elective taken out of the LSUHSC system. If you are in the process of or have arranged an elective out of the country, please SEE MS BOBBIE EARLY. |
THERE WILL BE AN EQUAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS ASSIGNED TO EACH REQUIRED COURSE DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR. THIS MEANS THAT I WILL ASSIGN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF STUDENTS TO EACH REQUIRED COURSE IN EACH OF THE NINE TIME PERIODS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. Do not schedule an out-of-state block on the March 15 block because of the MATCH! If you are interested in taking an elective out of state, PLEASE SEE Ms Bobbie EARLY. If you have any questions or need help in planning your schedule, please DO NOT HESITATE to see Ms. Bobbie. You will be given three months off, from December 17 through January 16 (interview time) and two other months of your choosing.
